Dani Truehart, a 15-year-old girl, has been training to be a pop star her whole life. Driven by her mother's desire for fame and fortune, Dani has never had a chance to live her own life. When Dani's audition goes viral, she is thrust into the music industry. She leaves her friends, family, and mother behind to move in with her new manager, Jenner Redman. Jenner is a former swindler who is determined to make Dani a star, no matter the cost. Dani struggles to adjust to her new life. She is isolated from her old life and overwhelmed by her demanding schedule. She also has to deal with the pressure of living up to her mother's expectations. To make matters worse, Martin Fox, Dani's vocal coach and former '80s pop icon, is at odds with Jenner. The two men have a rocky past, and their feud threatens to derail Dani's career. With everything stacked against her, Dani must find a way to stay true to herself and her music. If she doesn't, her debut album and future stardom are at risk of falling apart.
