A thousand years after World War Extinction devastated Earth, humanity emerged from the ashes and rebuilt a new world. This new world was vastly different from the old. Mars had been terraformed for decades, and a fleet of human starships was poised to begin exploring and colonizing the cosmos. Then, an ancient message arrived at the Martian base at Olympus Mons. The transmission sent shockwaves through Interstellar Fleet Command. The message seemed to have originated from humanity's first interstellar starship, the Magellan II. This legendary ark-ship had been launched before most of humanity was incinerated during World War X. As with most legends of pre-apocalyptic Earth, stories of the Magellan II were considered little more than myth. Many doubted it had ever existed at all. But this message was real. And it changed everything. Interstellar Fleet Command dispatched its most advanced starship to investigate. When that ship disappeared without a trace, its sister ship, the Endeavor, was sent on a rescue mission. The crew of the Endeavor tracked the missing ship to a watery world called Aqueous, which orbited a red dwarf star. What they found upon arrival was a deadly planet that belied its beautiful appearance. It was inhabited by dangerous reptiles, hostile aliens, and even dragons. But there was also something else on Aqueous: a long-lost human colony.
